HOUHORA MASTER PLAN

The Houhora master plan is founded on a deep respect for its remarkable landscape, transforming an exposed protea flower plantation into a place of refuge, restoration, and quiet occupation. Timber milled from the existing pine and eucalyptus shelter belts is reincorporated into the buildings, while extensive native replanting seeks to restore ecological diversity, attract birds back to the site, and regenerate the natural character of the land. The architecture is carefully embedded within the undulating sand formations, allowing the eye to pass lightly across the distinctive geomorphology toward the distant landscape and sea beyond. Together, landscape and architecture create a sheltered retreat that celebrates both the rugged beauty and the enduring spirit of this extraordinary place.
